Excel Maritime is committed to providing safe seaborne transportation of dry bulk cargoes in accordance with international rules and regulations, always assigning utmost importance to the safety of its officers and crew and to environmental protection.
The technical management of our fleet is undertaken by Maryville Maritime Inc, a wholly-owned subsidiary of the company.
History
Maryville established its ship management operations in the maritime center of Piraeus, Greece in 1967. The company took its present form in 1982 and has become one of the foremost Greek ship management companies in Piraeus. Since its formation, Maryville has managed and operated over 70 dry cargo vessels for individual owners, partnerships and Excel Maritime Carriers. Today it manages a diverse fleet of vessels ranging from Handy size to Cape size Bulk Carriers .
Certifications
Maryville believed in Safety Management and Quality long before they became mandatory by the relevant institutions. Although the shipping industry was aware that Safety Management (ISM CODE) would become mandatory as of July 1, 1998, Maryville Maritime, in conjunction with ISO 9002:1994, commenced operations back in 1995 aiming to voluntarily implement both systems well before the International Safety Management date.
Maryville was the first ship management company in Greece to receive simultaneous ISM and ISO SAFETY AND QUALITY SYSTEMS Certification in February 1996, for the safe operation of dry cargo vessels. Both systems were successfully implemented in the course of the years, until a new challenge ISO 9001:2000 and ISO 14001: 1996 was set. At the end of 2003, Maryville Maritime's Management System was among the first five company management systems, to have been successfully audited and found to be in compliance with both Management System Standards mentioned herein above. Certification to Maryville was issued in early 2004.
